Really Further...

Most of the problems are ongoing and time is needed to eliminate bad habits and create good ones based on the methods implemented.

To involve deeper everyone within the new organization, we made them participate. They are experienced in their own jobs, so they know what kind of recurring problems (small or big) they face. Because of this, their feedback is very important.

Suggestion Box

We implemented a suggestion box in each department: every department has to fill the box with at least 3 ideas every 2 months.
Suitable ideas were those related to work method improvement, cost efficiency/saving, safety improvement…
The rules of this program were simple: 3 ideas every 2 months. The best idea selected wins  a prize of 500 000 IDR (~50% of minimum wage in Indonesia).

Results

After 6 months implementation (3 sessions), the program had been stopped due to lack of interest from everyone. It has been judged as “too hard”, “too difficult” because not everyone could win.

It's very hard to make everybody participate. Rules had been understood but not adhered to because all of these methods of improvement were not taken in account in annual objectives. Besides, Human Ressources (HR) rejected a proposal to include bonuses for managers if they respect and participate to improve the work.

New Program

After careful consideration about how to make everyone respect the organization’s rules (5S, TQM…), a new program has been created named “who still wants to be a millionaire”.
In this program: each department has 1 000 000 IDR per quarter, a list of rules’ infractions has been created.
Each infraction costs an amount of money deducted from the million rupiahs. 2 inspections are done per day and a red card is put where any problem is detected and a report is filled, sent and displayed every 2 weeks.
